Welcome to The Regent Primary School

Headmaster’s Welcome

Welcome to the Regent Primary School and to our website.

On behalf of all the children and staff, I’d like to warmly welcome you to the Regent Primary School website.  The School was established over twenty years ago and has grown rapidly since its early days, gaining a reputation both locally and internationally for providing an excellent and rounded education for children in Abuja.

The school comprises of boys and girls from ages 2 to 11 years old, and is the most highly regarded British Curriculum international school in Abuja, with outstanding academic performance and excellent facilities. We aspire to become the best international primary school in Nigeria and then to rank amongst the top international primary schools worldwide. We were therefore delighted to see the efforts of our staff rewarded in May 2023, when we were inspected by the British Schools Overseas (BSO) and graded as Outstanding in all areas!

We are a school that likes to celebrate success at every level. The life of the school is driven by enthusiasm and a desire to achieve. We promote learning that is active and creative and encourage children to embrace challenges and celebrate success. My team and I are unwavering in our belief that every child can achieve their full potential and we plan for opportunities that develop every aspect of our students’ interest and ability.

Beyond the classroom, our students and staff are rightfully proud of the productions and performances that they regularly showcase, and those fortunate enough to be in the audience at these events speak of them with high regard.  Our success is built on our values of respect, responsibility and resilience, and nowhere are these values more evident than in our exceptional sports teams, where their achievements are clear for all to see in the countless medals they earn and proudly display.

Our Early Years department is bright and vibrant, with a wide range of opportunities to learn through play, both indoors and outside. With low student-teacher ratios, we are able to plan and deliver learning experiences based on the needs and interests of individual students. Children leave our Early Years department with an excellent knowledge of phonics and a secure foundation of number facts. When combined with the personal and physical skills they develop throughout the phase, they enter our Primary School with all the attributes needed to excel.

From Year 1-6 our curriculum is based on the the current UK National Curriculum and adapted for our international setting. Our pupils are regularly assessed against the requirements of this rigorous academic programme to ensure that they are on track, or in the case of many of our students, exceeding expectations.  It is purposefully broad and children have opportunities to participate in a wide range of cross-curricular activities as well as in music, arts and sports.

We ensure that they are fully prepared for the next stage of their education. Our close relationship with our sister school, the Regent Secondary School has enabled us to develop an excellent transition programme enabling students to make a seamless and highly successful move to high school.

Whilst we are proud of our rigorous British academic foundations, we are also proud to be based here in Nigeria with its wealth of culture and tradition. We take every opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge our Nigerian roots.

Our students say that they are excited to come to school each day and that the best part is the teachers who make learning fun. They love being able to share their new learning with their parents at the end of each day. They also enjoy the different events on offer, especially the ones that teach us skills like money which help us to be successful adults. Our parents tell us that they enjoy the warm welcome they get here, the positive and collaborative relationship they have with the staff and the fact that the school has a real sense of community. They say it really feels as if they are part of ‘The Regent family’.

I hope that the website will give you a flavour of what we are about and an introduction to the outstanding academic and personal growth that our children achieve If you would like to know more about us, the best way is by visiting us to see us in action and I look forward to meeting you soon and sharing more about our school!

I look forward to meeting you soon. --
