Culture

Culture is an integral part of school life

The school sees the recognition of culture, be it the culture of Nigeria or the cultures of our students from other countries, as an integral part of school life. We recognise the cultural differences of a diverse range of students, and the need to embrace these into our own school culture.

Cultural activities are part of the wider curriculum, and are taught and practiced through Music, Art, Drama and Nigerian Studies in both formal teaching and our Activities programme. Visits to plays and other cultural events in Abuja from time to time form a part of our wider curriculum. The school puts on its own drama, music and cultural performances during the academic year.

International Day is a day when we recognise the cultures and nationalities of all members of our school community, through a sharing of cultures and national symbols.

Nigerian Studies

Nigeria has a rich cultural heritage as diverse as her people and language. This is show cased in various festivals in the different regions of the country. Durbar and the Argungun Fishing Festival are major attractions up north. The southern and eastern states celebrate the New Yam Festival while the Eyo and Osun festivals are celebrated in the west. Some of these festivals are recognized by the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organisation.

Community Service

We may not, by ourselves, be able to change the world, but we can help in our little way make it a better place. Community service is a newly introduced experience at The Regent. It is taking off as one of the after school activities club, Charity Club. It will afford students and parents the opportunity to give back a little to the community. Next term we hope to support an orphanage.
