YEAR 11 GRADUATION : My thanks to all parents and friends of Year 11 students who attended the graduation ceremony for these students last Friday.  It was heartening to see a full hall of support for these students on their final day at school, to see them receive their graduation certificates and to wish them well in the future.

YEAR 9 PERFORMANCE

Yesterday in assembly we were treated to the annual Year 9 song and dance performances.  Each class devised music and lyrics as part of their music programme, then put dance to this, and performed the piece as a group together.  It was an exercise, not only in music and movement, but also working cooperatively together, and a big learning curve for the students.  We enjoyed all three performances (rap) and Years 7 and 8 now know what is required when they get to Year 9.

8B PRESENTATION

Four students from 8B additionally made a presentation yesterday at assembly.  They had researched the 1992 Zango-Kataf massacre and put together a PowerPoint presentation.  Because they felt moved when researching the massacre and General Babangida they asked to be able to do the presentation.  My thanks to Nokuthula Ntlokwana, Ifedi Mayor-Eze, Olusegun Olu Ibukun and Isabel Tabet for the initiative, enthusiasm and willingness to share with the rest of the school what they had found out.  I was impressed with them and they showed the sort of initiative we are trying to develop in students.

YEAR 10 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT TRIP

Year 10 students taking the Environmental Management option visited the Abuja Environmental Waste Management Disposal site on Tuesday this week as part of their studies into looking after our environment and how we solve problems. It was a valuable experience for these students to see firsthand how problems can be solved but to also think of alternative solutions themselves.

NEXT WEEK

Tuesday next week sees the Inter-House quiz.  However, apart from this, students will be having normal lessons and will be involved with academic tasks in classes.  Students therefore require exercise books for all classes and pens/pencils.

TEXT BOOKS

We will however be collecting all text books in from Years 7, 8 and 9 starting on Monday next week, as these are only on loan to students.  It would be helpful if parents of day students in these years could check to make sure that they have all books back at school on Monday.  House parents will do likewise with boarders.  This gives the librarian time to check all books and repair any in need of such, before the end of term.

Year 10 retain their text books, but we will also be checking theirs next week, so they also need to bring them all in.
