Welcome to the Regent Primary School and to our website.
I hope that the website will give you an insight into the vibrant and exciting school we are developing here in the heart of Abuja.
Rather like the city itself, the Regent School has grown rapidly since it was established some sixteen years ago by owners who are passionate about providing the very best educational opportunities for the host and expat communities in the Nigerian capital. The school roll numbers over 500 boys and girls from ages 2+ to 11 years old. There is a long waiting list for many classes.
The school is the foremost British Curriculum international school in Abuja with a strong academic base and excellent facilities. We aspire to become the best international primary school in Nigeria and then to rank amongst the top international primary schools worldwide.
We are an ambitious school and my team and I firmly believe that there is no limit to the potential of our students.
We provide outstanding opportunities that develop every aspect of our students’ interest and ability. We aim to develop a lifelong love of learning and to encourage every child to discover and nurture their passions. We ensure that they are fully prepared for the next stage of their education. Our close relationship with our sister school, the Regent Secondary School has enabled us to develop an excellent transition program enabling students to make a seamless and highly successful move to high school.
Our exciting and engaging curriculum is based upon the latest version of the UK National Curriculum 2014. We use the highly regarded UK Early Years Foundation Stage strategy to ensure the youngest children develop their full potential, and the full UK National Curriculum from Year 1. Our pupils are regularly assessed against the requirements of this rigorous academic program to ensure that they are on track.
Alongside our academic program we have a well-developed extra-curricular program of sports, science, music and art. Our school is renowned for its musical and dramatic productions, which are often the talk of the town! Our swimming squads regularly return from galas laden with medals. We insist on commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Whilst we are proud of our rigorous British academic foundations, we are also proud to be based here in Nigeria with its wealth of culture and tradition. We take every opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge our Nigerian roots.
Our children say that they are proud of our school and that they love coming in every day. They are keen and willing learners, well behaved and focused on achieving great things here.
Our parents tell us that they enjoy the warm welcome they get here, the positive and collaborative relationship they have with the staff and the fact that the school has a real sense of community. They say it really feels as if they are part of ‘The Regent family’. We are very proud of this relationship as we know that together we can ensure a fantastic future for the children here.
As I start my first year as Headmaster at The Regent Primary School, I am very excited to have the opportunity to build on strong foundations and to take the school forward. I predict exciting times ahead!
Websites really only offer a glimpse of life but we hope that it will be sufficient to encourage you to come and visit us.
I look forward to meeting you soon,
Mr Graham Horton B.Ed. (Hons.)
